In contemporary theological scholarship, the relationship between interpretation and action has often been treated sequentially—as though one first formulates an abstract hermeneutical framework and subsequently applies it to moral life. However, developments in contextual theological ethics, liberationist discourse, and empirical religion demonstrate that hermeneutics and praxis are co-constitutive. Our social locations, lived practices, and institutional environments actively condition how we interpret sacred texts and traditions, while our interpretive frameworks continuously reframe our moral action. Navigating urgent modern crises—including social injustice, political polarization, systemic inequality, and institutional decline—requires a rigorous examination of this mutual formation. We invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which will advance contemporary Christian social ethics by investigating the dialectical interplay between hermeneutical inquiry and moral praxis.
